Nele has run the campsite for 18 years. She speaks perfect English and is a fantastic host — warm, funny, generous, open and curious. She and our three-year-old son became fast friends.
The drive up the mountain has incredible views. Since the campsite is quite far from any kind of big road, it’s perfectly quiet. All you can hear are birds, the river, and the wind blowing through the trees. The surrounding nature is gorgeous, rain or shine.
It’s a small, intimate campground tucked in between trees and flowers. There are a few tent pitches down by a little river and a few up on the hill with marvelous views of the mountains. There are also two yurts that can be rented, and a cosy little studio apartment with its own kitchen and wood stove.
The shared kitchen is lovely and bright, with big windows and glass doors so you feel out in nature even inside. It’s also equipped with everything you might need to cook, and there are fridges to share and cupboards to store food. There’s a big table inside, which is great for when it’s cold or stormy, but also two tables just outside for when the weather is good. There’s also a shaded sandbox our son could play in while we ate or had coffee.
The bathrooms are clean and cheerful. There’s lots of counter space and two showers with nice hot water and double curtains for privacy. Nele always puts a fresh bouquet on the counter.
There’s a little farm down the road that you can buy produce and eggs from directly once a week, on Friday mornings. And don’t miss the lovely Saturday morning market in nearby Prades, with small local producers.
El Manau a magical place, and we can’t wait to return. Thank you, Nele!
