Checked in to the southern sun and on the same night, my room smelt like a sewage. After calling concierge, we were taken to another room to check and it was even worse. Called back concierge and I was told by whoever I spoke to that what was I expecting. Honestly, judging by the pictures we saw on the website, this was not what I expected. The rooms are run down, the carpet on the hallway dirty, the place smells like damp and wet towels. Truly so disappointing. This isn’t southern sun standards at all.
The hotel needs to shut down for a while to renovate the place. What I paid for was definitely the beach Front view and not the room.

I'm in two minds to write this review, because we had a fantastic stay back in August on our family holiday. The hotel, the staff, the food, the room, on the whole all were great and it was a really pleasant surprise and felt super plush after 10 days in more rustic Xai-Xai lodgings!
The reason I have given two stars is because, over two months later, the hotel has been unable to refund me the holding deposit they took on my UK debit card when I checked in. I've spoken to reception, to the Financial Controller, all numerous times, but there is simply no urgency in helping me to get my money refunded. They blame the bank, the bank blames them.
The deposit is a relatively small amount. But it does beg the question - should a guest have to be responsible for checking their bank balance to ensure that their deposit has been refunded? I think not.
Come on guys - it's simply unacceptable in this day and age. If you were happy to take my money, be happy to refund it to me

Room a bit grotty (soiled carpet and stained chairs). Food v. poor (COVID19 situation not helping here). Lovely location and general aspect. Certainly not good value for money at the moment. This was always my favourite hotel in Maputo.

Mon séjour au Southern Sun Hotel à Maputo a été vraiment exceptionnel. Du début à la fin, l'expérience a été excellente.
Le personnel de cet hôtel se distingue par sa politesse et son professionnalisme. Leur accueil chaleureux et leur volonté de m'aider m'ont permis de me sentir comme chez moi.
La propreté et l'arôme de l'hôtel sont remarquables. Le parfum agréable qui vous accueille dès votre entrée dans la zone de réception, ainsi que les belles fleurs d'orchidées, créent une atmosphère accueillante.
De plus, l'emplacement de l'hôtel est tout simplement incroyable. Dès que vous entrez, vous êtes accueilli avec une vue imprenable sur la mer bleue et sereine. C'est un spectacle à voir.
Je recommande de tout cœur le Southern Sun Hotel à Maputo pour un séjour inoubliable et agréable. C'est un véritable joyau dans cette ville.

Spectaculaire, nous sommes restés chez vous 5 jours et super top. Sous tous les aspects

Bel emplacement. L'hôtel et tout le reste sont satisfaisants. Le bâtiment a un joli style rétro bien entretenu. Il y a un bureau de change à l'intérieur de l'hôtel si vous avez de l'argent liquide.
Ce qui est bizarre, c'est que je suis ici depuis un jour maintenant et personne ne se baigne au bord de la plage même si les conditions météorologiques sont bonnes.
