Único hotel de lujo de Maputo situado directamente en la playa, el Southern Sun es un auténtico complejo vacacional de la cadena hotelera sudafricana. Un refugio junto al mar en medio de la ciudad, en un lugar tranquilo. Todas las habitaciones ofrecen un espacio lujoso en un ambiente retro chic con muebles de inspiración victoriana. Todo el lugar es muy agradable. El bar-restaurante da al mar, donde se puede disfrutar del marisco, las puestas de sol y los domingos de jazz en el Evolve. La pieza central es la piscina con sus palmeras y su verde césped frente a la playa.

Checked in to the southern sun and on the same night, my room smelt like a sewage. After calling concierge, we were taken to another room to check and it was even worse. Called back concierge and I was told by whoever I spoke to that what was I expecting. Honestly, judging by the pictures we saw on the website, this was not what I expected. The rooms are run down, the carpet on the hallway dirty, the place smells like damp and wet towels. Truly so disappointing. This isn’t southern sun standards at all.
The hotel needs to shut down for a while to renovate the place. What I paid for was definitely the beach Front view and not the room.

I'm in two minds to write this review, because we had a fantastic stay back in August on our family holiday. The hotel, the staff, the food, the room, on the whole all were great and it was a really pleasant surprise and felt super plush after 10 days in more rustic Xai-Xai lodgings!
The reason I have given two stars is because, over two months later, the hotel has been unable to refund me the holding deposit they took on my UK debit card when I checked in. I've spoken to reception, to the Financial Controller, all numerous times, but there is simply no urgency in helping me to get my money refunded. They blame the bank, the bank blames them.
The deposit is a relatively small amount. But it does beg the question - should a guest have to be responsible for checking their bank balance to ensure that their deposit has been refunded? I think not.
Come on guys - it's simply unacceptable in this day and age. If you were happy to take my money, be happy to refund it to me
