The room smelled like septic gas. I’m not a plumber, so I don’t know what was causing the smell. However, it is quite unpleasant.
We decided right away that the room would not work for our family. My wife tried cancelling the second night because we were within the 24 hour cancellation window. Initially the receptionist, Sim, gave my wife a really hard time, but ultimately cancelled our second night.
We kind of accepted that we would have to stay the first night, even though it wasn’t great.
Around 8 pm when we were all going to bed, we noticed a motion sensor light outside our room kept turning on and off. The blinds didn’t mitigate the light flashing in our room, and our son couldn’t fall asleep.
We asked the receptionist if there was something that could be done about the light. She simply said there was nothing she could do.
We had to leave the hotel at 8:30 pm, and booked at the St Paul hotel, which is much nicer, and not that much more expensive.
The second night in Montreal, we stayed at St Sulpice in Old Montreal. Again, it is not that much more in terms of price, but is much nicer, and the service was much better than Hotel Paris.
I tried to negotiate with the manager of the Paris Hotel to pay half our rate for the first night. $375 / 2, so $187.50 for the first night. I’m not rich, so was trying to recoup some cost, considering we had to book with another hotel for the same night. I understand that they are running a business, and was open to pay a portion for things like cleaning costs.
The manager agreed, and said he would refund half the money for our first night. He never did. I tried calling the hotel on Thursday, February 23, 2024 – However, the manager never returned my message.
Terrible experience. I would never stay here, and never recommend this hotel. I’d recommend checking out St Sulpice or the Saint Paul hotel if you stay in Montreal. It is worth the extra $100 a night just to avoid the poor service and hotel conditions at Paris hotel.
Everything was great for this location.
Specially the restaurant !
Please disconnect the phone during sleep hours.:)I woke up 3 time by the reception ring phone at 1 to 2 am.
The included breakfast looked like food poisoning waiting to happen (cold cuts, cheese and fruit sitting out for hours covered in flies) so I opted out of it.
The only redeeming quality was it was walkable distance to lots of restaurants, shops and a lovely park. This made it easier to spend my whole days outside to avoid staying in the gross room.
Stay elsewhere.
