Antiguamente, el edificio servía de almacén para las mercancías de los barcos que atracaban en el puerto. En cuatro plantas, el visitante puede descubrir la historia y la memoria catalanas, desde la prehistoria hasta nuestros días, a través de objetos, documentos y reconstrucciones históricas. Además de la exposición permanente, se organizan regularmente exposiciones temáticas.
