Décor, staff, food quality, coffee, conclusion:
Décor:
Avoid looking at the ceiling — or the floor. It’s a blend of fake elegance and real vulgarity. The ceiling is decorated in a kind of low-cost 18th-century style, the lighting consists of neon tubes encased in recycled scaffolding bars, and the tiled walls rise a full meter from the floor, giving the whole place the look of a slaughterhouse that could be hosed down at closing time.
Staff:
A word of advice: always double-check your bill. No doubt unintentionally, the system tends to inflate it during peak hours. Point this out, and you’ll be met with hostility.
This doesn’t happen when the place is quiet. Instead, staff listen in on your conversations and comment among themselves.
During busy periods, service is slow and the staff curt. To the point that if the wrong dish is brought, they may simply refuse to bring the one you actually ordered.
Food:
A good point: a wide range of breakfasts, dishes and drinks, with careful presentation. Unfortunately, the carrot cake is often dry, the pancakes undercooked, and as for the French toast — it would be better off served to pigeons, who might find it edible.
Coffee:
Roasted up to two months ago. No mention of roast profile or method — slow roast, light roast, nothing. As for the taste, it’s anyone’s guess.
Conclusion:
A place from which one might expect more elegance — in both its decor and its staff. This isn’t the RATP canteen.
The food is hit-or-miss, and the coffee? A game of Russian roulette.
