Absolutely wonderful. The website said to call if you want to see the store outside of opening hours and they were able to do that for us. Really nice people!
After finding out the oldest bookstore in Iceland was located on our drive through the Westfjords, we had to make a stop and couldn't have been happier with our decision. This quaint little store has so many books, including ones written by the store owners who were able to tell us the story of what inspired his book. With each purchase, each book was stamped with authentication by the store owner.
The place is lovely, the owner of the bookshop is very kind and helpful. The bookstore has been in his family for 4 generations, it was founded in 1914. It is worth checking out that the whole bookshop looks like a museum! If you buy a book here, you can ask for a cool stamp in it.
Very cool bookshop and museum. The owner was very helpful and friendly. He I formed us that he only sells things that he likes himself, which makes for a great selection of high quality products and books. The book ‘The Westfjords Wonder Cow’ is based on a true story and has been written by the owner of the shop. Possible to buy local chocolate at the store too. Be sure to stop here when in the Westfjords.
Part of our wonderful Viking tour around Iceland - the hidden jewel that was absolutely AWESOME! Friendly people who speak English quite well and do everything to make you feel welcome!! Go, experience it for yourself - you won't be disappointed!!!
We left Flateyri with a bitter taste.
The rooms are great, clean, everything is ok for a shared accommodation, good breakfast, but as we had to cancel one of our nights there (reluctantly of course, we had no other options), a commercial gesture would have been appreciated (like a 5-10% refund or something...). I know we have to pay according to the cancellation policy but we lost 200€...
So maybe less marketing and more authenticity/humanity for next time ???? I work in tourism and know that business is important but a symbolic gesture would have made our impression of Flateyri and its people very different.
????
Incantevole emporio più che libreria. È lo store più antico di Islanda, almeno così dicono. Una delle 150 librerie da non perdere a livello mondiale, così recita un libro specializzato. È certamente un luogo da visitare se vi trovate nei fiordi del nord ovest
Eypor (store owner) is an absolute treasure. The passion that he has for his family's shop is unmatched. He is a lovely host and was very friendly while allowing us the common areas and bedroom.
The old house is cozy and it's a treat to spend time in at piece of history like this. Everything is clean and the bed is comfortable.
Since a must of traveling is good sleep and not just spending time in adorable and historic places, I will add a few extra notes here.
As you would expect in a 100+ year old home, everything makes noise and sound insulation is minimal. The doors, the floorboards. The cabinets. The sinks. And perhaps even noiser ... Your roommates.
There are three bedrooms upstairs and I suppose if you have polite and aware guests in the other two rooms, noise could be minimized.
Unfortunately, we did not have those guests. One couple was up at 5am and for 40 minutes they clanked around every dish, cup and utensil available in the kitchen. They couldn't have made more noise of they had tried. I laid in bed amazed at how unaware of others two people could be.
Please folks, be respectful of your roommates. Use soft voices. Gently pick things up and put them down. Speak quietly. Don't roll your luggage back and forth across the floor at 5:30am.
A+ for the owner and the property. This review is just to give people realistic expectations of what the stay may be like.
Very authentic and loveley bookstore. Owners don't sell a single product that they wouldn't reccomend or buy themselves. If you're up for timetraveling go there. :)
A marvelous place with a really authetic touch, which the owner brings across with inspiring passion.
Cleanliness and practical aspects are great. Don‘t expect too many electricity plugs from an old house, and be aware that two of the three rooms are not huge, so if you travel with tons of luggage, you may feel squeezed.
The advertized opulent breakfast, by the way, is no exageration!
The price level is, let‘s say, „in line with Icelandic standards“.
The Flateyri Fjord is one of the most beautiful fjords of the island - but that has little tondo with this rating.
Hat sich Zeit genommen, und alles zu erklären, war bereit uns Tipps zu geben.
店主很友善及親切。
