We stayed in Cabin 5D which had a separate bedroom and a sofa bed in the living area which is open to the kitchen. Whomever has the sofa bed in the living area will not have privacy, so head's up if you are booking this cabin. We knew this when we booked, but I imagine if someone did not do their research, they'd be uneasy with the lack of privacy. My travel mates would make coffee early in the morning and the sound carried through the cabin while I slept on the sofabed but I did not mind.
There are black-out roller shades but the sides are not completely sealed so it is recommended to bring an eye/sleeping mask. Also bring earplugs because if your travel mates snore, you will not get any sleep. The birds can be quite noisy too :)
The cabin interior is clean and well-stocked. There is a small fridge which came in handy to store our groceries for meals. Kitchen was stocked with dishes, cutlery, and utensils. There is a kettle, some ground coffee, sugar, and a coffee machine with filters. The undersink had a small bin for green garbage (food scraps), a bin for recycling (glass and plastic), and a bin for "clean paper" (perhaps paper towels that have only been used for wiping up water, and newspaper). There was no bin for garbage, except for a very small one in the bathroom – it fills up fast when you have multiple guests staying for a few days or more.
The hot tub does not have jets, which I loved. It fills up with very hot geothermal water which can burn you if you're sensitive to high temperatures, so be careful. It takes 45 minutes to fill up. Very easy to work.
I noticed that when the neighbouring cabin (5C) would fill up their hot tub, the water pressure for our cabin (5D) would lower. So if you happened to shower while they were filling their tub, you'd have a weak shower experience. Not a problem, I just waited 45 minutes until I needed to shower. Just a small inconvenience. The rest of the time, the shower had good pressure and heated water up very fast.
In the bathroom, I wish there was more counter top space; they could add a cabinet or open bookshelf to help with temporary storage of guests' toiletries. We were a group of 3 so we wish there were more hooks in the bathroom to hang towels/wet swimsuits.
It only occurred to us when we arrived that our cabin (Cabin 5 C/D) was semi-detached so we had another guest next door and we could hear them open/close their front door (and they could definitely hear us as well). It was not a bother as the guests were quiet and respectful.
The cabins are located next to a golf course, so when I was in the hot tub late at night in the summer, I could see golf enthusiasts still playing. There is no "view" of the ocean – you'd have to take a long walk closer to the shore to see anything, but you can definitely smell the ocean scent and hear the birds.
Guests should be warned that these cabins are built near birds' nests and during nesting season (summer) the birds can be very territorial and will act defensively if you are walking too close to their nests (which are in the ground because there are little to no trees in Iceland).
There is no air conditioning but opening the windows and doors to let in the fresh air was nice.
Overall, the experience was positive and I would absolutely return!
