This place is living off its past and glorious history! While the building is fabulous, the management is not up to handling this Grand Dam and a new vibrant "team" should bring this fabulous building back to the heights of yesterday!
We had a last minute emergency that required us to change the venue of our fundraiser with less than 6 hours notice and the Berkeley City Club (and specifically Al-Leigh) were so incredibly helpful and accommodating! I am so grateful to their team and will recommend them to anyone looking to host an event in Berkeley.
Excellent customer service and beautiful vintage hotel with a great ambiance. We had a beautiful room overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Their complimentary breakfast was good in a fancy place with lots of nice details like fresh flowers everywhere, paintings, comfy couches, fireplace, piano… Walking distance to UC Berkeley and restaurants.
Okay let's do this! No AC no Heater. Pool by reservation for half the day. Beds dear Lord that isn't a bed it's not comfy at all. Great service they are kind when you call and ask about a heater. At least you have a space heater I mean for $250 idk bro it's a little wild. I get it julia but her best work was hearst castle tbh. Awesome location don't bring the kids. It looks nice for a venue. We should really not fire it reviews for being a hotel. Should be reviews for historial stuff and maybe the restaurant idk. Please y'all quit giving reviews about it being a hotel. Some upgrades 1000% this places gets 6stars but that's gonna take some HVAC and pleaseeee get some swipey cards and comfy beds with good pillows.
Gorgeous hotel and refuge in the middle of Berkeley. Comfortable rooms, beautiful building. It's a Julia Morgan building and I love everything about it. Courtyard is a lovely place to be.
How, throughout all the reviews no one mentioned there is no air conditioning!!! Pillows are lumpy, they've been around. I personally didn't find the beds comfortable. And, a configuration of a twin, and full is bizarre.
2 out of 5 stars only for the courtyard and architecture. Otherwise I would rate it with one star.
Waited an hour to check-in and encountered unfriendly staff. The reservation clearly said that check in is at 3pm, but the room wasn't ready until 4-20. The room smelled bad and had no working AC. To top it off, the restaurant was closed. Noise from other rooms and clanging pipes made sleep impossible, and the water was rusty. In order to access the pool you have to make an advanced reservations which is not clear upon booking.
Really enjoyed this hotel. It's an old building with a rich history. Feels more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. Great location, friendly staff. Great experience.
The Berkeley City Club is such a jam, in the middle of downtown Berkeley. The place is gorgeous and so unique having been designed by Julia Morgan. It’s a charming location for weddings and events.
