A beautiful themed restaurant in the heart of Helsinki, where you can try reindeer. Even if the portions are small, they are quite filling. The real highlight was the lady with the short hair and blue glasses! She was a pure delight in serving us and great conversationist!
Picture this: you enter the restaurant, a restaurant so Lappish it practically screams "Yoiks!" from the reindeer-hide wood as walls. Tourists mill about like a herd on Black Friday, all eager to experience a taste of the Arctic. Therefor was everybody, including me on this restaurant. The air crackles with a frenetic energy, a bizarre mix of excited chatter and the faint scent of desperation for a decent table, where you can hear the people you are out a dinning whit.
The service? Solid. Not the synchronized ballet of a Michelin-starred joint, but more like a well-rehearsed school play. You get what you came for, no muss, no fuss - Real Finish.
Now, the atmosphere. Here's where things get a little...well, like a misplaced IKEA display in the North Pole. The attempt at a Lappish lodge vibe feels more "theme park yeti" than genuine. Still, it's has it charming in its own, but slightly in a confused way.
But fear not, intrepid diner! For the true star of the show here is the food. They may liberally sprinkle "Lappish" before every dish name like culinary glitter, but there's no denying the quality. The reindeer tenderloin? Oh boy, the reindeer tenderloin. It's a revelation. Imagine the most melt-in-your-mouth steak you've ever had, then sprinkle it with reindeer magic. Just try to ignore the fleeting image of Rudolph on a hot plate.
So, the verdict? It is a tourist trap, sure. But it's a delightful, reindeer-fueled tourist trap. The food is good, the atmosphere is...interesting, and the crowds? Well, they add to the cacophony of the experience. Just be prepared to fight for your table and embrace the inner Viking when it comes to grabbing your server's attention. If you're looking for a hushed, intimate Lappish experience, this ain't it. But if you want a fun, slightly chaotic adventure with some fantastic reindeer on the side, then go.
Just be aware it is expensive.
An absolute gem in the heart of Helsinki! Delicious food and amazing service ????
We landed and straight up went to this place as we were very hungry. We were given the best seat in the restaurant! The interior looks so cozy and traditional: captures the Finn aesthetic very well. Great place for newcomers to this country! ????
The service was LOVELY and it’s great that the menu isn’t massive either. They all speak English there and we had the English menu as well ????
The bread and butter that came before the food was a really good way to leap into Finnish cuisine. I LOVE rye bread and this is exactly what I needed!
We went with the salad as the starter which surprised us as to HOW DELICIOUS IT WAS. Next came our fish mains and they were cooked really well. Lots of warm flavours came out. The desserts were again very worthwhile. Absolutely recommend the Lapland Farmer cheese dessert!
Please GO HERE as they serve traditional Finn food ????
Came here for the salmon soup because someone’s review said it was the best soup in Helsinki. I had two bowl because I was hungry however the soup is ok, i wouldn’t said it was the best. Had the smoked salmon as well but the mushroom sauce is on a salty side. Salmon is surely smoked pretty good, very tender and juices.
Traditional finish restaurant that offers traditional dishes.
The restaurant itself has an amazing atmosphere, with old style interior that fits the Nordic style as one would think of.
The dishes were ok. I wasn't super convinced with the sauteed reindeer, but I had to try.
The service was relatively quick, but it felt very rigid and unfriendly.
One of the best restaurants I have been lately. Food is excellent, not too many choices, but all are great (only reindeer and fish). The stuff is extremely kind and welcoming. The whole restaurant is with very rustic and authentic stile. Highly recommended when in Helsinki.
Loved the reindeer shank! A must order. It literally falls apart once your fork touches it. Delicious and decadent! The atmosphere is pretty cool too. It gets busy during dinner time. I recommend making a reservation if you want a bigger table.
The waiter has been super rude. Even if the dishes felt quite good in presentation (normal taste, but I felt sick all night long), I would not recommend a restaurant where waiters are so unprofessional.
Ravintola significa ristorante!
Excellent cuisine, very nice decoration of the restaurant, high quality dishes.
Just one point, the waiter would be better off working in the tax administration, rather than in a business. he smiles when he gets burned ????
We wanted to eat something, waited at the desk 5 minutes, nobody was there. On a very unfriendly way we were told to come in 1,5 hours again and if it is not clear for us to come just like that is a Waite of time for both. That was it, never again Lappi
This restaurant is the ultimate Finnish experience! The food is incredible..especially the smoked salmon dish. The prices are quite high but the ingredients are worth it!
Accueil chaleureux et gentillesse du personnel
